    Staff Cut At Romero’s Slipgate Ironworks

    Gazillion Entertainment has confirmed a round of layoffs at Slipgate Ironworks, the MMO development studio founded by ex-id Software and Ion Storm designer John Romero.

    According to a statement issued to Kotaku, development of the San Francisco Bay Area studio’s unnamed MMO will continue with a "smaller core team”. The site’s tipsters indicate that as many as 50 members of staff have been cut.

    Former Blizzard North President Joins Gazillion

    Gazillion Entertainment has hired former Blizzard North president David Brevik as studio director for Gargantuan.

    Brevik will be charged with leading the development of the San Mateo, California-based studio"s PC and console-bound Marvel Universe MMO.

    During his time at Blizzard, Brevik was responsible for creating the studio’s Diablo series, serving as project lead, design lead and lead programmer for the first two titles in the franchise. He also launched Blizzard’s online gaming service, Battle.Net.

    250K Sign Up For Jumpgate Evolution Beta

    Development of NetDevil’s space combat title Jumpgate Evolution is being aided by over 250,000 North American and European beta testers.

    Currently in the Friends and Family testing phase, the beta for the MMO game is publisher Codemasters’ biggest ever.

    NetDevil said that the aim of the beta is to provide the community with the opportunity to help shape the final game.
