Krome Studios, Australia’s largest developer, has made an undisclosed number of layoffs across its Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne locations.
CEO Robert Walsh cited declining game sales and the struggling economy as reasons for the cutbacks at the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii/PS2/PSP) and Viva Pinata: Party Animals (Xbox 360) developer, which was formed in 1999 and plays home to over 400 staff.

Electronic Arts is expected to announce the closure of Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries developer Pandemic Studios later today.
That’s according to Kotaku sources, who indicate that almost all of the 200 employees at the Los Angeles-based studio will be laid off, with the remaining few set to be incorporated into other EA development teams.
The studio behind Full Spectrum Warrior was formed in 1998 and purchased by EA in 2007.

During his opening keynote of the sixth annual Montreal International Game Summit, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirmed the importance of Eidos to the company’s new, globally minded strategy.
He said co-operation and competition between the company’s international development studios would “spur innovation and leverage cultural diversity” beginning with a potential direct collaboration between Square Enix and Eidos Montreal.

The Walt Disney Company has reported a drop in revenues and increased losses for the fiscal year ended October 3, 2009.
The firm’s Interactive Media segment, which includes Disney Interactive Studios, Disney Online and mobile operations, saw revenues drop one per cent year-on-year to $712 million (£426m), while losses grew by 14 per cent to $295 million (£176m).
