Combined next generation and handheld sales were $275 million thanks primarily to “dramatically higher than expected sales of 360 and Wii games,” according to a note from Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter.

Nintendo and Microsoft accounted for $79 million of the $96 million year-over-year increase in sales.

Current generation software sales, including Game Boy Advance software, were $275 million.

Devil May Cry 4 will be released simultaneously for PS3 and Xbox 360. The action series has this far notched up sales of seven million units. This news will come as a blow to Sony which has been criticized for its lack of third party exclusives.

"Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal," said Capcom U.S. boss Mark Beaumont.

The two companies already have a relationship, and EA says it plans to extend its interest. IIn 2006, EA and Neowiz partnered to launch EA Sports FIFA Online, which now has 4.4 million registered subscribers.

Under the terms of today’s deal, EA will own approximately 19 percent of Neowiz stock at a cost of $105 million.

cclaim is not a company that‘s afraid of the new. It’s bringing esoteric Korean games to Western markets. It’s basing its business on a largely unknown free-to-play advertising-based model. It’s opening up development to consumers via grand Willy Wonka-style contests.

Also, it’s dispensed with testers and is getting Joe Public to do the work for free.
