Safety Tips for Teens

MMOABC is a great place to connect with guild mates and make friends from around the world. It’s fun to exchange and share information but you should also keep in mind that the Internet can be a dangerous place.
Below are some common guidelines you should take into consideration when using MMOABC or the Internet.

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use MMOABC: Our membership rules are in place to protect people. If you are under 13 years old, we will delete your account.

  • Pictures: Avoid posting personal pictures that contain suggestive messages. Think about what would happen if your parents, relatives, friends, university admissions counselor or future employer saw the pictures.
  • Check your messages on a consistent basis: Avoid responding to inappropriate messages or comments. Delete the messages or comments and report the abusive user to MMOABC. Never respond to messages from strangers who ask personal questions.

  • Do not meet with strangers: At all cost avoid getting together with a new friend you met online. If the meeting does occur, please make sure that it is taken place during the day and you are accompanied by a responsible parent.
  • Making your Internet experience safe: If someone has threatened you or you feel uncomfortable about something online, please report to an adult you trust and also to MMOABC and the police.

Safety Tips for Parents

The Internet is a public and fun place for teens to get information. Although the Internet is a fun place it is still dangerous as any other public location. There is no perfect solution to online safety for teens, but parents and guardians can make a big difference. Parents should take every step to discuss with their teens about their online experiences. Below are some suggestions and guidelines.

  • Talk to your teen: Teach your teen to use the MMOABC website appropriately. Educate them to understand the Internet and social networking safety guide lines. Tell your children to not give out passwords, personal information, avoid meeting with friends they meet online and also to not post any embarrassing pictures online.

  • Have your teen share their profile and blog to you: Profiles and blogs will help you find any vulnerable information that may jeopardize the safety of your teen. Also, use popular search engines and search tools on social networking websites to search for information on your teen.
  • Communicate openly with your teens: Encourage your teens to speak openly with you on uncomfortable situations that may occur online. You are their first line of defense.
  • Structure online activity in the central area of home: This will help you monitor your teen’s activity and behavior online. It is not recommended to have the primary household computer in your teen’s room. Be aware that the Internet can be accessed anywhere today.

  • Tell your teen to report threatening activity: If someone has threatened your teen or they feel uncomfortable about something online, have them report it to you and also to MMOABC and the police.
