Nintendo of America has announced that Club Nintendo is coming to the United States, but that the DSi, the new DS model that was announced in an early Thursday Tokyo press conference, will not follow suit until “well into” 2009.

The announcements came at an NOA press conference in San Francisco Thursday morning. Club Nintendo is a service Nintendo has provided in other regions that has become renown for its premium giveaways, including exclusive DS game content. According to the conference as reported by Wired Game|Life, Club Nintendo will become available in the US by the end of the year.

It was also noted at the conference that while the DSi would come to the US, it would not do so until some time in 2009. Reggie Fils-Aime stated that this was due to the fact that the DS LIie was still selling very well in the West.

Also presented at the event were a series of new games, several of which were introduced at the Tokyo conference but were only confirmed for US release at the San Francisco conference. On the Wii, these games included Punch-Out and Sin & Punishment 2. Announced for western release on the DS were Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Mario & Luigi 3; both are slated for 2009.

Update: According to Joystiq, an error at the press conference led to reports that High Voltage Software shooter The Conduit was to be published by Nintendo. In fact, the game"s publisher is still unannounced.
