Brian Morrisroe, art director for Diablo III, has left Blizzard to form a new non-gaming venture, Kotaku reported Thursday.

Questions of Morrisroe"s departure came when Warcraft house Blizzard issued a job listing for his position.

"Regarding Brian, he recently resigned to form a startup company "outside the game industry," which is why we posted about the open position," a Blizzard rep said.

"That change won"t impact the game...we"re really pleased with the look and feel that Brian helped create for Diablo III, and the new person we bring aboard will work with other artists on the team to maintain the art style moving forward."

Blizzard fans recently started an online petition (currently with over 50,000 signatures) demanding that the developer rework the graphics in Diablo III.

Critical fans said the game is too "cartoonish" and had too wide of a color palette when compared to previous dark and dreary Diablo games.

However, Blizzard has stated that there"s "no turning back" on the current art direction.
