Ubisoft Sues Over Assassin’s Creed PC Leak
Ubisoft is suing North Carolina-based Optical Experts Manufacturing, the company that it contracted to reproduce copies of Assassin’s Creed for PC, for copyright infringement, breach of contract and negligence, after one of the company’s employees allegedly posted a pirated copy of the game on the Internet six weeks before its release.
According to GameSpot, Ubisoft filed suit against OEM last month for failing to abide by numerous security measures, and even claims that OEM admitted to causing the leak by not meeting its security commitments.
Ubisoft says that the leaked edition of the game was downloaded more than 700,000 times, costing the publisher millions of dollars, and that the pirated version of the title contained a bug, a factor that caused "irreparable harm" to the company’s reputation.
Ubisoft is seeking damages and legal fees in excess of $20 million.
