As development costs rise, Sony Computer Entertainment is eyeing India as a center for its game development efforts, a report said Tuesday.

SCE country manager Atindriya Bose told DNA India that Sony wants to increase its game production business in India, where the cost of making games is relatively low.

According to the report, Sony is transferring tech from its London studio to India, training locals and offering dev kits on loan.

“The future of the Indian game development market will depend on the quality of the game developers who are starting at a zero base,” said Bose.

The PS3 launched in India in May last year.

Today, all eyes are on emerging markets such as India and China, where the games business has huge potential to open up in the years to come.

Sony Online Entertainment has stressed the importance of India, with Dave Christensen, VP of business development stating last year, "We need to have Indian content for our games and we are looking for local partners."

Other large publishers such as Electronic Arts and Ubisoft have operations in India.
