Saints Row Wii Would be Too Controversial

One reason that THQ developer Volition won"t be bringing Saints Row to Nintendo Wii is because it would cause too much controversy on the motion-centric machine.

Producer Dan Sutton told Edge sister site CVG that he"s "sure" a Wii version of Saints Row would cause controversy.

"With games like ours you get much more controversy when you add motion controls like you saw with Manhunt 2," he said.

Last year, Rockstar"s Manhunt 2 for Wii stirred up debate due not only to the ultra-violent nature of the game, but the motion controls that had players acting out the violence more dramatically.

"We have weapons like chainsaws, satchel charges, stuff like that," Sutton continued. "I can definitely see people having a problem and outcry towards that because it does actually feel like you"re using weapons that way.

"...In Manhunt it feels like you"re hacking at somebody, though I suppose that was a bit more over the top than our game was. But yeah, I definitely think you"d get criticism for that in our game, GTA and Crackdown."

Sutton also said that the Wii"s lesser graphical capabilities were a reason Saints Row won"t be appearing on Nintendo"s console.

"At Volition we"re really about pushing really good graphics and with the Wii you just feel like you"re playing on an older console," he said.

Volition is currently working on Saints Row 2 for PS3 and Xbox 360, the follow up to the original Xbox 360 exclusive game that released in 2006.
