Rockstar Sweeps Develop Awards
Rockstar Games has taken a plurality of the awards at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards, according to a statement made by the Develop Conference organizers Thursday.
The company won four awards, the most of the night, including a special grand prix award for competing most to the medium in 2008. Rockstar also took the best in-house developer award, and the visual arts and audio accomplishments awards for work on Grand Theft Auto IV.
Other winners at “Europe’s only awards ceremony dedicated to games developers” included Frontier Developments, which took the best new IP category for LostWinds. Traveller’s Tales won best use of a license for Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, and Nintendo was awarded best publisher.
Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds also received the business development award at the ceremony. The company’s CEO, David Jones, said in a separate statement, “We’re delighted to receive such an accolade. We’ve accomplished an incredible amount in the last 12 months but it’s often easy to overlook ‘business development’ success before the results are apparent.”
