Described as a "parallel story" to 2007"s original Crysis first-person shooter, Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek"s Budapest studio, which the company founded last year. The game will run on an "enhanced and optimized version" of Crytek"s sharp-looking CryENGINE 2.
The announcement of Crysis Warhead comes after Crytek president Cevat Yerli"s recent comments expressing frustration with PC game piracy.
“I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy… PC gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more," he said. "It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won’t have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future.
"We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.”
Following those comments, Crytek told Next-Gen that Crysis was the studio"s most pirated project to date.
Although Crysis Warhead is currently classified as a fall PC exclusive, there"s always a possibility that the title could show up on consoles sometime in the future in some shape or form.
“Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise," EA Partners global GM David DeMartini said in a statement.
Crysis Warhead will follow the story of the Nanosuit-wearing "Psycho," a fellow soldier who teamed up with Crysis" main character Nomad in the original game. Warhead"s storyline will actually be parallel to the original game"s events.
