ImageKonami noted "concerns" about the lagging U.S. economy and a decline of consumer spend in Japan, but still managed to grow sales and profits in fiscal 2008, ended in March.

Konami, which aside from home software also has businesses in health and fitness and arcade, posted operating income of 33.84 billion yen ($322.81 million), a 20.2 percent year-on-year increase.

Net revenues were up 6.1 percent to 297.4 billion yen, while net income was up 13.2 percent to 18.35 billion yen.

Domestic sales of Konami"s baseball titles and the Winning Eleven soccer series drove sales. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 outsold the previous year"s title in Europe, while Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party for Wii sold "briskly" in North America.

Konami also said that its health and fitness business is expanding. Currently, Konami operates 300 sports clubs, and manufactures fitness equipment and supplements.

The company also said that its slot machine business is growing as more jurisdictions legalize gambling.

Konami"s premier title for this fiscal year is the PlayStation 3-exclusive title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, releasing in June. The next Winning Eleven title is also expected to sell strongly.

The game maker forecast net revenues for the current fiscal year of 330 billion yen, operating income of 45 billion yen and net income of 26 billion yen.
