Vivendi Game Sales Drop on Tough WoW Comp

ImageVivendi Games" revenue for the quarter ended March 31 was €221 million ($341.45 million), a 24.1 percent drop from the same period last year.

Blizzard made up the large majority of Vivendi Games" revenues, generating €192 million alone.

In addition, Blizzard"s World of Warcraft added an additional 2 million subscribers compared to March 2007.

Vivendi Games" other divisions performed better than last year, according to the company.

"Sierra Entertainment, Sierra Online and Vivendi Games Mobile revenues were slightly higher than their performance for the same period last year; in the face of unfavorable currency exchange movements on all business segments."

The games division reported earnings before interest and income taxes of €50 million.

Overall, parent Vivendi saw revenues of €5.3 billion for the quarter, an increase of 5.2 percent year-over year.

Net income was €697 million, down 9.6 percent.
