Global PS3 sales for the year ended March 31, 2008 totaled 9.24 million units, representing a 156 percent year-over-year increase from fiscal year 2006, when 3.61 million PS3s were sold. PS3 software sales leapt 335 percent, from 13.3 million units to 57.9 million. Sony expects PS3 sales to top 10 million units this fiscal year.

PSP sales increased from 9.53 million units in FY 06 to 13.39 million, up 46 percent, while software sales were up one percent to 55.5 million. The company expects to shift 15 million PSPs during the year ending March 2009.

PS2 hardware sales fell seven percent year-over-year to 13.73 million, with a more dramatic slump in software unit sales, which were down 20 percent from 193.5 million to 154 million. PS2 sales are expected to drop to 9 million units this fiscal year.

In total, fiscal year 2007 PlayStation division sales rose 26.3 percent to 1.284 trillion yen, narrowing the unit’s losses from 232.3 billion yen the year prior to 124.5 billion yen. As part of its annual financial results the company said it expects its games unit to report an operating profit for the year ending March 2009.
