ImageUshered in by stormtroopers and accompanied by members of the Traveller’s Tales creative team, TT boss Jonathan Smith said that he hoped the five years spent working on Lego franchises had proven inspirational to his peers.

“We believed children were being very badly served by the games that were being given to them,” Smith told the audience, before announcing that the Lego Star Wars series has sold 18 million units.

Lego Star Wars and its sequel were both well-received by the press and consumers, finding audiences with both younger and older demographics thanks to the universal appeal of the Star Wars license and solid gameplay.

Smith said that not rushing products to market was one key to success, noting that Traveller’s Tales had spent a “geological” amount of development time on some of its titles. He also said that the sense of fun and play associated with the Lego brand was a big driver of sales.

He then revealed that work on Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures had wrapped up last week, labeling the game’s production “quite an effort”. Lead programmer John Hodskinson described the development experience as “intense”.

Lego Indiana Jones will be released for multiple platforms in early June.
