GameLayers Readies First Web Browsing MMO

ImageAccording to GameLayers, the casual multiplayer game brings online social play into web browsers. PMOG gives players points for surfing with a PMOG Firefox extension, which can then be used to leave traps or treasure on any website for other players to find.

“There’s a reason we wanted to make a passively-multiplayer online game,” said GameLayers CEO and co-founder Justin Hall.

“Ideally we want to constantly play games but we don’t have time. A passive game is something we can play all the time, without having to pay too much attention. Plus all the data of the internet represents a fabulous play field.”

PMOG game events are created by other players and then layered over the web. The game has been in closed beta testing for ten weeks, and during the last two months PMOG players have created over 3,300 “Missions” sending players across the internet on information quests. Players see PMOG “Mines” “Crates” or “Portals” affixed to sites like CNN, Facebook or Google, and can unlock badges based on their web surfing: BoingBoing, Kotaku, Eurogamer, TechCrunch, Twitter, Flickr, Dopplr, MySpace, Facebook, Joystiq and GameSpot are all represented.
