"For the holidays, we"ll provide a significant leap forward in innovation for Guitar Hero worldwide, on all platforms, including the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii and ... on the DS," said Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith during the company"s quarterly earnings call.

He said that more information on "this specific innovation" will be made available in a couple of weeks.

Griffith called Guitar Hero a "very expandable" opportunity for Activision. "We"ve seen ... that there is what we"d characterize as a strong appetite for more music, more experiences, more venues. It bodes well for where the franchise goes in the future."

Activision has been talking about expanding upon the wildly popular Guitar Hero series for months. In February, Activision CEO Robert Kotick told investors, "Many of our studios are working on things like note-tracking, new platform implementation, new versions of the product and expansion of the franchise in a variety of different ways."
