Portal, BioShock Sweep GDC Awards
Valve’s first-person puzzler also won in the categories of Best Game Design and Innovation; it was initially nominated for five awards. 2K Games’ BioShock likewise took three prizes out of its five nominations, winning in the categories of Best Visual Art, Best Writing, and Best Audio.
This year’s Best Technology Award went to Crytek’s Crisis. The Best Handheld Game award went to Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Realtime Worlds’ Crackdown was awarded this year’s prize for Best Debut, while the title of Best Downloadable Game was bestowed upon thatgamecompany’s Fl0w. Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4 were each nominated for four awards, but both left the ceremony empty-handed.
The Game Developers Choice Awards also bestowed several special awards upon specific individuals. These recipients, who were announced prior to the ceremony, were Ralph Baer for the Pioneer Award, Jason Della Rocca for the Ambassador Award, and Sid Meier for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
